EU law-making update #8

My final EU update for this year – wishing you a restful Christmas break!

Looking back at 2025 through the data from my EU law tracker:

🔹The EU launched 134 new legislative initiatives this year. A large number of proposals is normal at the start of the mandate. (Breakdown by procedure: 119 OLP, 8 consultation, 7 approval)

🔹The Commission put forward 10 omnibus simplification packages this year, the last three (environment, automotive, food and feed) came in short succession in December. These 10 packages contain 28 OLP files in total – see detailed overview on my tracker.

🔹The EU institutions agreed 64 major laws this year, this includes 4 files from the omnibus packages. (55 OLP, 9 consultation)

🔹The Commission launched approximately 500 public consultations and calls for evidence covering around 275 initiatives this year. Just last week, the Commission services published 17 such requests for input.
