Good visuals aren’t just nice to have when it comes to EU policy. I have learned that they’re often the only way to make the EU’s complex processes understandable.
For years, I had a way in mind to better show you EU law-making – but it wasn’t practical. Creating even a basic version, let alone constantly updating it, took hours.
So I’m both excited and relieved to leave that tedious work behind.
My EU law tracker now lets me generate slides automatically with an overview of progress on selected legislative proposals.
This slide shows progress on the six omnibus simplification packages, tracking each file through key stages of the process. Arrow colours denote the most recent step. Where I have future dates, they are included too.
Of course, packing this much information on one slide means not all the detail is there. EU procedures vary significantly depending on the legislative route and actors involved. (For example, 2025/0044(COD) was adopted via the urgency procedure.) But it shows the key steps and overall timeline, and that’s exactly what an automated overview is for.
I hope you find it useful. Share with others if you do. And let me know what files to cover next.
